Two Paws Up Boarding Kennels

We are Ches and Tania Meikle. We started operating our boarding kennel in December of 2005. Ches and I are both total dog-lovers and when this piece of property came up for sale, we jumped on it and have never looked back. We are a fine example of ‘doing what you love’.

When we first started, we had twelve kennels and then a year later, we became so popular, we added five more. We now have two separate buildings, the ‘original kennel’ and the ‘five star’. Both kennels are great. They are indoor/outdoor meaning that each dog has his own divided off space with a doggie door. The individual kennels measure 4.5 feet X 6.5 on the inside and the outside space is a bit larger. In the winter time, they are heated to room temperature. In the summer, the heavily shaded buildings stay quite cool and we use ceiling fans to circulate the air. Each dog has access to a large fenced exercise area, five times per day. In the exercise area they are given time just with one of us or, if your dog likes to play with another dog or, two then I can choose one that would be compatible to come outside with us for some playtime. All the kennels have a Kuranda dog bed which are like mini-trampolines that lift the dogs up off the floor. We recommend that you bring in something from home that has your scent on it so the dog can have it in his kennel. Usually a soft mat, crate pad or a blanket works best. We provide food and custom baked dog cookies with boarding. The food we provide is Eukanuba although if your dog has a sensitive stomach or, is on raw food, or, on a special diet, you are most welcome to bring that in with you. We provide the dog dishes and we use stainless steel which are washed and sterilized in between guests. We are set up for bathing and for a small fee upon going home your dog can have an Aloe & Oatmeal Bath, blow-dry, brushing and nail trim. I don’t do haircuts but, I can recommend someone in the area that does a great job!

Quite often I get asked, “What is the difference between the original and the five star kennel?” The difference is that the five star has fewer dogs in it (its generally a bit quieter), there’s an inside play space with a leather couch and a television and we are more particular about which dogs are suitable for the five-star. If they are misbehaving or, barking aggressively then, they will be moved over to the original kennel.

To stay at our kennel, your dog has to be up to date with their vaccinations and you must provide proof. Distemper, Parvo and Rabies must have been done within the last three years. Kennel Cough or, Bordetella is not mandatory but, strongly recommended. The reason we don’t make it mandatory is because for it to be effective, it must be done 10 days before boarding. This is not always possible if an emergency situation comes up. Also, the kennel cough vaccine is much like a flu shot meaning that just because your dog has the vaccine, he still may catch Kennel Cough as it all depends on which strain comes into the kennel. A good, healthy, unstressed dog should be able to get-over the virus themselves but, there is always a chance that it could turn into a pneumonia and that’s when a Vet visit becomes necessary.

Our kennel is a small kennel that cares about the dogs that stay with us. We are very ‘hands on’. This means that 95% of the time it will be myself or, Ches that will be caring for your dog. We think we have been so successful with our kennel for that very reason. We get to know the guests that stay with us, call them by name and if one of them is ever ill---trust me, we will notice and will call your emergency number or, the Vet if needed. We understand that your dog is not just a pet, he or, she is your family member and Ches and I treat each of them like they are special.
